The Short Version

Your audio never leaves your Mac. MacParakeet processes everything locally. We don't collect, store, or transmit any of your data.

What We Don't Collect

Audio files -- Your recordings are processed entirely on your device
Transcriptions -- Your text output stays on your Mac
Usage analytics -- No tracking, no telemetry
Personal information -- No accounts, no login required
Device identifiers -- No fingerprinting

How MacParakeet Works

MacParakeet uses the Parakeet TDT model running locally on your Mac via Apple's MLX framework. When you transcribe audio:

Audio is loaded into memory on your Mac
The Parakeet model processes it locally using Apple Silicon
Transcription results are displayed in the app
Temporary files are deleted after processing

At no point does audio data leave your device.

Network Connections

MacParakeet does not send your audio or transcripts to any server. The app may use the network only for setup and maintenance:

Model downloads -- Downloading local STT/LLM model files on first run
Dependency installs -- Installing local Python packages for the STT daemon

These connections download software components only. Your recordings and transcripts stay on-device.

Data Storage

MacParakeet stores minimal data locally on your Mac:

Settings -- Your preferences (hotkey, behavior)
History -- Dictation and transcription history stored locally
Models -- Downloaded AI models for local processing

All data is stored in standard macOS locations and can be deleted by removing the app.

Third Parties

MacParakeet does not share any data with third parties because we don't collect any data to share.

Children's Privacy

MacParakeet does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we'll post the changes here. Since MacParakeet doesn't collect data, significant changes are unlikely.

This privacy policy is intentionally simple because MacParakeet is designed to respect your privacy by default. We believe the best privacy policy is one where there's nothing to disclose.
